Stress managementThe incidence of stress seems to be increasingly prevalent within our society - it is a subject that is being given an ever-wider exposure. As such, stress is a term that we now all use on a relatively frequent basis. The idea of being stressed-out at work seems to be on the increase. Unfortunately, attempting to understand the stress phenomenon evidences a world lacking in good theory. Despite what you might read, or are led to believe, there is little robust scientific evidence regarding the nature, causes and effects of stress. The business case for investigating stress relates to understanding and limiting an organisation's potential risk exposure; to achieve a rapid and successful return to work so as to avoid a prolonging of the current situation, in which there is sub-optimal utilisation of resources, and to prevent reoccurrence. PsychaLogica presents a workshop entitled 'Managing Stress at Work' in which stress is addressed first through definition, progressed via legal definition, cause, recognition, coping, dealing - at best prevention - and concluded with required actions. We well recognise that stress has no simple, unitary or universal solution. We also subscribe to the view that stress management for the most part is a component of good people management, a PsychaLogica speciality.
